Yves Saint Laurent Does Afrocentric

In 1967 Yves Saint Laurent’s came out with his African Collections and introduced a collection of “African” dresses constructed from raffia, shells and wooden beads. He made beaded, feathered, tribal patterns so beautiful!

History of Style: Amelia Earhart

Looking back at some photos of American aviator Amelia Earhart shows that she was a fashionable and glamorous woman. Tall and slender she wore designs by designer Elsa Schiaparelli and was always conscious of her image when flying and when out on the town.

Amelia demonstrated her entrepreneurial streak by debuted her clothing line in 1934 know as "Amelia Earhart Fashions". Her first creation was a flying suit with loose trousers, a zipper top and big pockets. In addition to her work as a designer, she also appeared in fashion spreads in Vogue and served as an editor at Cosmopolitan. Quite an interesting lady!

A Touch of Fringe

The fringe tend has come a long way since the hippie movement and has twirled its way into today's fashion to everything from long strands fringe dresses, skirts and coats right in line with that 1960's vibe. I'm looking forward to adding a touch of fringe to my wardrobe and on the Miss Sixties Vintage Fashion website in the near future. Fringe is such an incredible added fashion detail; it not only adds lots of movement but a much added glamorous feature.

The Best of Textiles: Juilliard Woolens

Juilliard Woolens fashion advertisements were so sophisticated and feminine; the models were always classically posed and wearing some of the most spectacular styled clothes. Established by Augustus Juilliard in 1874,  A.D. Juilliard & Co. of New York City was one of the most prominent in the dry goods commission trade, handling the output of some of the largest mills in the country manufacturing woolen, cotton and silk fabrics.

Fashion Label: ESCADA

As one of the world’s leading luxury women's wear brands, ESCADA stands for modern elegance, cool glamour, and sensual femininity. Founded in 1978 by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in Germany, ESCADA designs throughout the 1980's and 1990's provided distinctive creations featuring unusual combinations of colors and patterns, exclusive embroidery, and elaborately designed knitted fashions. The women’s brand was introduced to the European market in 1978, but they didn’t hit the US market until a few years later in 1982. Margaretha was an overachiever, as she was not only the co-founder, but the chief designer as well. She was known for designing bold, colorful luxury sportswear.

Vintage Bed Jackets: The Sexy Way To Cover Up

I have really become very fond of bed jackets and have started a mission to collect for myself and to make available for purchase on the website. These cute, soft-looking cover ups have been around since the 19th century known for keeping warm, walking around the house or just to fall asleep in, and knowing today's street-style, I won't be surprise if one day we see these lovely vintage pieces paired with a cute pair of jeans and some sexy ankle strap heels.
